So many of you came out to celebrate the opening of Walin & Wolff, New Canaan's newest shoe and accessories boutique! At this Ladies Night Out, we sipped Prosecco, enjoyed nibbles from Rosie's and had the opportunity to shop for beautiful shoes, jewelry, handbags and sunglasses with friends.

On Thursday night, members stuffed thousands of plastic Easter eggs with chocolates, jelly beans and coupons for the New Canaan Toy Store at Kristin Thomas' home.

If you missed out on the fun, don't worry! Please join Kristin and the Easter Egg Hunt committee on Tuesday, March 13 at 7:30pm for a second evening of egg stuffing and good company - 110 Braeburn Drive, New Canaan.

Mark your calendar and join the YWL for Couture For A Cause. Our new spring fundraising event will be held on Friday, May 4th at 7 p.m.

We are hosting the event at the Loading Dock in Stamford - one of the hippest new venues town!

Put on your outfit, swing by the Stamford train station to get your date and make your red carpet entrance at the YWL event of the season!

Tickets are $75 per person and are available for purchase on the YWL website. But hurry, space is limited.

Donation to Autism Speaks

All of our hard work at the 2011 American Girl Fashion Show paid off last Wednesday night at the January Members Meeting. Amy Burger and the co-chairs of the AGFS presented a check for $15,000 to Autism Speaks, the designated beneficiary from the event!

39TH ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT PLANNING UNDERWAY

The new year is here, and we need volunteers for the Easter Egg Hunt! Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 24th, from 10-12. We will need volunteers, baked goods, chocolate donations and much more! The committee will have sign-up sheets at the next general meeting, so put on your bunny ears and sign up to help! If you can't make the general meeting, we will be sending out emails with more information. This event is always popular so we will need everyone's help!

Mark your calendars for the November 9th General meeting!

Our speaker is Judy Martin, Executive Director of the Starfish Connection. The Starfish Connection, Inc. is a 501c3 corporation whose mission is to support academically talented students from low income families reach their potential and their dreams of attending college. It is a comprehensive program that identifies high potential children from high risk socio-economic groups in the 3rd grade, and provides mentoring, advocacy, educational support, enrichment, and extracurricular activities throughout their elementary, middle and high school years.

The Starfish Connection was founded in 2008 by David and Judith Martin in memory of their mothers. It is a small and selective program that provides each student with individualized attention. Working with identified students, their families, and their schools, the Starfish Connection provides opportunities for the students to broaden their horizons, their experiences and their knowledge. The goal is to ensure each Starfish Connection student is ready and able to attend a college of his/her choice after completing high school.

Glass House Tour May 12, 2011

We had a wonderful time at the private Glass House Tour then off to the Roger Sherman Inn for Drinks and Appetizers! If you have not done the tour, you are missing quite a fantastic experience! The two hour tour was well worth it and living here in New Canaan, it is a great opportunity to see Phillip Johnson's masterpiece!

Cooking for the Norwalk Emergency Shelter

Go to "News & Updates" to check out the efforts of our members to help out one of our Community Concerns. YWL ladies provided dinner for guests of the Norwalk Emergency Shelter. Members donated money to buy the ingredients and/or donned aprons and hair nets to prepare dinner for about 190 folks in needs.

Speakers announced for March 16th General Meeting

One of our two speakers this evening will be Kari Pesavento who is the Director of Children’s Connection. Children's Connection is one of our three designated grant recipients this year. Join us to hear about this wonderful organization and what they do to help children in desperate circumstances.

Our second speaker will be Beth Cutler of Cutler & Andrews Financial Group, who will discuss The Principles of Investing...Especially For Women. Her talk will address such issues as:

-Where are investment opportunities

-If the stock market increases only modestly, where should I be looking to invest?

-Where are interest rates headed and how can I preserve my portfolio?

The meeting will be held at Waveny House and is open to YWL members.

Local Businesses Hop To Help Easter Egg Hunt

The Young Women’s League of New Canaan will hold the 38^th Annual New Canaan Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 9^th, 2011 at Waveny Park. The event is free and open to the public thanks to the collaboration and support of local organizations and businesses.

KL Designs has hopped on board with the YWL to underwrite the cost of the eggs this year. Kerry Lee, owner of KL Designs has been a Certified Interior Designer for 17 years. She moved her business to New Canaan 6 years ago. Offering full interior design services, KL Designs’ Elm Street store is filled with beautiful gifts for the home and custom furniture delivered in only a few weeks.

Also generously contributing to the Hunt for the first time are New Canaan Cleaners, who since 1990, have provided superior dry cleaning services to the town, and Randy Jahier, the owner of Life Aquatic, New Canaan's new specialty salt-water fish shopon South Avenue.

New Canaan’s local Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee, will donate the coffee for the second year. YWL members will bake close to 1,000 homemade cupcakes, cookies and muffins that will be available for sale in addition to Easter egg baskets and other Easter novelties. Entertainment this year is being provided by Pepe Motors. Bob Pepe, a New Canaan resident, and his family have owned and operated Pepe Auto Group since the 1960s and are celebrating the opening of a new Cadillac dealership in Westchester County in Spring 2011. Cadillac will be joining Mercedes Benz of Larchmont, Mercedes Benz of White Plains, Pepe Infiniti and Pepe Porsche as one of the brands sold and serviced by the Pepe Family.

All of the event’s cherished traditions will return. The Canaan Parish Sweet Shoppe is donating 30,000 jellybeans to the delight of all the hunters. Hidden inside some special eggs will be New Canaan Toy Store coupons, which have been donated by the Elm St. store. The Bank of New Canaan and Playland Nursery School and Camp are pleased to sponsor inflatable slides for the children to enjoy throughout the morning.

100% of the proceeds from the event will go to the YWL Giving Fund. The YWL, founded in 1973, is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to community service. YWL members volunteer their time and conduct fundraising efforts on behalf of charitable and community service organizations in New Canaan and surrounding areas. In the event of inclement weather the Easter Egg Hunt will take place on the same day at New Canaan High School.

$15,000 to Kids In Crisis!

At last night's General Meeting, we presented Kids In Crisis with $15,000! Not bad for

the League's first American Girl Fashion Show event. Kids in Crisis was the sole benefactor of the AGFS and they were thrilled to receive such a large donation - it couldn't have been possible without you!

January New Member Drive and Final Chance to Renew at 2010 Rate!

This will be an opportunity for prospective members to meet YWL board members and learn about volunteer opportunities with YWL. With holiday shopping well underway at Holiday Market, its also time to start thinking about Breakfast with Santa for the little ones. Check out event details under "Community Programs".

Note: to have breakfast with Santa, you must register with the New Canaan Recreation Department. The YWL is not taking reservations. Admission is a new, unwrapped toy.

Holiday Market This Week!

The Young Women’s League of New Canaan is preparing to hold its 13^th annual Holiday Market at Waveny House on Wednesday, November 17 and Thursday, November 18.

The Market brings together approximately 40 specialty vendors in one place, selling an array of gift items including home accessories, clothing, jewelry, handbags and holiday decor.

Cliffmore Collection, The Julie Collection, Suzanne Barrett Designs, and White Moth Jewelry, among others, will feature beautiful, unique jewelry.

Booktopia, Baby Box, Charlie & Grace, Very Cherry Gifts, and Stockings and Stuffers will offer a range of gifts for infants and kids.

And other vendors such as Jo Malone, Small Field Papers, K. Madison, East End Foodies, Everything Is Rosey, Elisabethan and Tailorbyrd will be selling one of a kind holiday selections.

The Holiday Market Preview Party takes place on Wednesday, November 17^th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance! Tickets can be purchased at M Milestones, located at 120 Main Street in New Canaan, or online at www.ywlnewcanaan.org. Preview Party admission includes a fun night of cocktails, delicious appetizers and desserts, a first chance to shop with the vendors, and re-admittance to the Market the following day.

The festivities continue on Market Day, Thursday, November 18^th from 9:00am to 4:00pm. In addition to the wide selection of vendors, A&S Fine Foods will be offering snacks, lunch and other fine refreshments. Tickets are sold at the door for $10.
